Grew up milking cows 24/7 until I enlisted in the U.S.Navy in early February 1939. Progressed through 8 pay grades until December 1943 when I gained my Commission and Wings of Gold. Prior to VJ Day I was awarded the Navy Cross for shooting down 5 enemy aircraft on the evening of April 6, 1945. After WWII, participated in Korea and the Cold War, flying Prop&Jet Fighters until retirement as a Commander U.S.Navy in 1959.
