I would love to use these gears in a project i'm working on but are they really in the public domain? I also found them on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Reduction_Gear.jpg) but I'm not sure if the image is safe to use in a commercial project i'm tying to wrap up.
